ABEO HDVR-150 Dashboard Camera – Our Review

When it comes to finding the best dashboard camera in the mid-price range segment then there’s nothing that can beat the ABEO HDVR-150 rear view mirror camera. Its clever design makes it one of the most discreet dash cam that’s available in the market right now.

It was released in late-2012 and has been selling like hotcakes since then. It’s designed in such a way that it integrates its display screen with the rear view mirror of your car. No one, in their wildest imagination, would ever have a clue that there’s a kick ass dash cam disguised as rear view mirror.

Although other dash cams, within the same price range, offer 1080p (Full HD) resolution, but ABEO HDVR-150 beats most of them when it comes to video quality. The HDVR-150 records stunning day and very good night time videos at 720p (HD) resolution @30 FPS (See Sample Videos).

Apart from standard features like loop recording, date and time stamp in video, auto on/off, G-sensor etc. the HDVR-150 boasts of the very rare parking mode and parking mode delay features.

In parking mode the dash cam starts to record, once it senses someone destroying your vehicle, even if the ignition key is off. You can choose parking mode sensitivity from off, high, medium and low levels. Setting “high” sensitivity would trigger the parking mode even on a slight bump to your car.

The parking mode delay feature allows you to choose the time after which the dash cam will enter the parking mode, once the ignition key is switched off.

The 2.4” display screen (disguised as rear view mirror) is awesome and works like a charm. It perfectly does all the functions that a display screen is supposed to do like video playback or real time video viewing.

The ABEO HDVR-150 supports a maximum of 32GB memory card giving you approx. 5 hours of HD video footage before the loop recording feature starts to overwrite the oldest recorded footage. Also there are no gaps reported in between consecutive video footages.

HDVR-150’s viewing angle of 120° is a tad less than other dashboard cameras like the Mini 0803 (135°) and Shadow Recorder GT680W (160°), but that’s very much acceptable.

Also, the operating temperatures are at par with other dash cams at -10°C~+60°C (/ 14˚F to 140˚F) and the storage temperature range is also great at -30°C to +80°C / -22˚F to 176˚F. Hence extreme weather swings are not at all a concern with the HDVR-150.

Abeo HDVR-150 Dash Cam – Video Samples

We request you to view the video in full screen and choose the maximum resolution; this will give you a better understanding of video quality captured by the dashboard camera.

Day Time Video Sample:

The day time video sample above is adequate to prove that the video quality of ABEO HDVR-150 is second to none. It even surpasses the video quality of some other 1080p dashboard cameras. The video is crisp and all the details are very clearly visible.

Night Time Video Sample:

As with any other dash cam, the night time video quality of ABEO HDVR-150 isn’t as good as day, however, it’s again way better that night time quality of some 1080p dash cams. License plates and other details can be clearly seen even in such low light conditions.
