Blackvue DR550GW-2CH Dash Cam – Our Review
The BlackVue DR550GW-2CH is one hell of an awesome dual channel dash cam from a well-known Korean manufacturer, Pittasoft. Released in late-2013, it quickly became very popular due to its stunning 1080p (Full HD) front and 720p (HD) rear video recording capability (See video samples).
The look of DR550GW dashboard camera is cylindrical and similar to DR500GW; hence it’s very discreet and low profile. There’s no display screen with the dash cam and this keeps the camera small measuring only 4.67×1.42 inches (front) and 2.64×1.1 inches (rear).
Since this high end ($200+ price range) dash cam doesn’t have a display screen, Pittasoft have included a voice menu system with DR550GW. Using the voice menu functionality, you can operate the camera without connecting to any sort of WiFi device.
Furthermore, it comes packed with all the regular features that modern day dash cams come with such as loop recording, GPS, G-sensor, parking mode, auto on/off, date and time stamp in video and a whole lot more.
Using the WiFi connectivity you can stream live and recorded videos directly on to your smart phone or computer via apps. These free apps are available for Mac, PC, iPhone and Android.
The viewing angles of DR550GW-2CH are impressive at 137° for front camera and 139° for rear camera. Although they are lower than 156° of DR500GW but it’s still enough to capture what’s ahead and after your vehicle.

There’s no doubt that the front camera of DR550GW does an impressive job even during night time There’s no distortion of images at edges and everything is really very well recorded. The dash cam really seems to have done an awesome job.

The rear camera, during night time, is not so good. The video looks grainy and only nearby license plates and other details can be comprehended.
