FineVu CR-500HD Dash Cam – Our Review
The FineVu CR-500HD is one of the most sexy looking dashboard cameras that we’ve seen till now. Released late-2012, it’s been in the market for quite some time and is a very stable and established dash cam as of today.
Thanks to the Sony Exmor CMOS sensor, the video quality is excellent during day and very good during night time (See Sample Videos). It records crystal clear videos at 1080p (Full HD) resolution @ 30 FPS and supports a max of 32GB memory card.
Absence of display screen and GPS keeps the dash cam very small and extremely discreet at 1.5×2.5×2 inches only. You can always buy an external GPS to use with CR-500HD.
Apart from all the standard features such as date and time stamp in video, loop recording, parking mode, auto on/off, G-sensor etc. this high end ($200+) dashboard camera supports CPL (circular polarizing lens).
A CPL reduces glare and reflection that occurs during bright sunny days (See Sample Video). CPL isn’t a standard attachment with CR-500HD and needs to be bought separately. Also, remove the CPL during low light conditions else the dash cam will record dim video.
The viewing angles of FineVu CR-500HD are 129˚ (diagonal), 112˚ (horizontal), 63˚ (vertical) which is similar to viewing angles of dashboard cameras in this price range.
All in all, FineVu CR-500HD is an awesome dashboard camera.
We’ve provided sample videos below, that’ll help you to make your mind about FineVu CR-500HD. Check them out!
We request you to view the video in full screen and choose the maximum resolution; this will give you a better understanding of video quality captured by the dashboard camera.
There’s no doubt that FineVu CR-500HD records seriously stunning day time video. Despite of the fact that there’s a good amount of reflection on the windscreen due to Sun, you can still make out lot of details from that footage.
All in all, a very good job done by CR-500HD.
As evident from the video above, once CPL is installed the sunlight’s glare and reflection on windscreen are not at all a concern for FineVu CR-500HD and the resulting video quality is again stunning.
CR-500HD does a very good job at night time too; you can easily read each and every detail such as license plates etc. even at considerable distance.
