Mini 0805 – Our Review
Mini 0805 is the predecessor to Mini 0806 and an upgrade to 0803; it’s an affordable dash cam (around $100, check latest price) released in late-2014. You can think of 0805 as Mini 0803 minus inherited defects plus major technical enhancements; we’ve discussed this further in our review.
While form factor of Mini 0805 is akin to earlier Mini 080x models maintaining stealth, the all black casing and 1.5” screen keeps it discreet. Hence when it comes to discreetness, 0805 gets an A+.
The 0805 records up to 1296p (Super HD) videos @ 30 FPS; however it can record 1080p (Full HD) videos @30 or 45 FPS. The new Ambarella A7LA50 processor and Omnivision OV4689 sensor hugely enhance Mini 0805’s video quality. (See sample videos)
While day time video quality is excellent, a significant improvement is seen in the night time video quality, thanks to the technical improvements and WDR Super Night Vision. In fact, 0805’s night time video quality beats some other expensive dash cams out there.
Another great upgrade in Mini 0805 is memory card support; while most other dash cams support up to 32 or 64 GB, the 0805 supports a whopping 128 GB memory card.
Note: It’s advised that you format the 128 GB memory card with FAT 32 file system type.
Mini 0805 is also locked and loaded with LDWS (Lane Warning Departure System) and FCWS (Forward Collision Warning System).
Apart from these, all regular functions, like, loop recording, G-sensor, auto on/off, date/time and speed stamp in video are standard features with Mini 0805. The GPS is optional and is set in the dash cam mount. You can get a non GPS mount too.
The viewing angle is kept at 120° (diagonal) and operating temperature range is at par with other dash cam at -10°C to 65°C (14°F to 149°F).
Overheating issues that persisted in Mini 0801 and 0803 have been resolved in 0805. This version is way cooler than previous ones and till now there haven’t been any reports of overheating or melting of 0805.
Another issue with previous 080x versions was wobbling mounting brackets (after prolonged use), this issue has also been taken care and adhesive brackets for Mini 0805 are much better and sturdy that those supplied previously.
In conclusion, all we can say that Mini 0805 is a welcome upgrade with serious improvements in video quality minus some really frustrating defects. This makes it a good choice for someone who wants an excellent dash cam around $100.
